The RYA Powerboat Level 2 Coastal Endorsement is a one day course providing the coastal section of the RYA powerboat syllabus and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. This course is open to those who already hold an inland RYA Powerboat Level 2, or can form the basis of a direct assessment for RYA Powerboat Level 2 for those who have equivalent experience. It focuses on adapting the low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, driving at planing speed, and collision regulations to operating tidally, as well as a fair amount of pilotage/basic navigation, and relevant information about VHF radios etc. When possible we will try to tailor the course and some content to match your needs. (For example we often include windsurf rescue to those coastally endorsing a PB2 so they can complete their windsurf instructor course.)
We can provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids and splash tops, but power boating can be cold from the wind chill so you will also want a coat you can wear on the water, a hat and gloves. We ask that you bring some footwear that you don’t mind getting wet as well as some for wearing after you have changed. Also bring a towel, and some warm clothes for after we come off the water. Also an additional dry coat can be a good idea if it is cold and some suncream if the sun is out, as believe it or not it can get hot enough to burn here in Wales! We have excellent changing and shower facilities on site at Porth Eirias, there are also lockers that accept a £1 coin (and even give it back afterwards.)
A packed lunch is a good idea, although it is a short walk/drive into town so it is possible to go to the shops.
We will need a passport sized photo for your powerboat level 2 qualification, as you are issued with a photo card certificate in a pack with your handbook.
