Windsurfing offers something for everyone, an addictive sport for all ages and abilities. The RYA Windsurfing Scheme is designed to help you to progress rapidly in the sport whether you are looking to blast on flat water or go hunt down some big waves.
As a first introduction to the sport the Start Windsurfing course is perfect, being designed to get you standing up and sailing around over the course of two days. There are no prerequisites to this course, other than a bit of water confidence. The course will be taught by a qualified windsurfing instructor in ratios of no more than 1 instructor to 6 students. We will be using ultra stable beginner kit with large boards of up to 200litres volume. On these boards we have good quality beginners sails rigged on skinny masts and booms to minimise weight and maximise ergonomics.
By then end of the course you should have knowledge of carrying and launching a board and rig, static steering, and sailing forwards. The next step is an intermediate course and hire. If you have done your start windsurfing course with us you will be able to come back and hire windsurfing equipment (in the right weather).
We can provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids and splash tops, so you should be fully kitted out on the water. We ask that you bring some footwear that you don’t mind getting wet as well as some for wearing after you have changed. Also bring a towel, and some warm clothes for after we come off the water. Also a coat can be a good idea if it is cold and some suncrea if the sun is out, as believe it or not it can get hot enough to burn here in Wales! We have excellent changing and shower facilities on site at Porth Eirias, there are also lockers that accept a £1 coin (and even give it back afterwards)
A packed lunch is a good idea, although it is a short walk/drive into town so it is possible to go to the shops.
