The RYA Powerboat Level 2 Direct Assessment is a one day entry course testing the knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling,
man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision
regulations. We are a coastal centre so your certificate will be endorsed accordingly.
The assessment is for those driving a powerboat comfortably already but requiring a qualification for leisure or commercial purposes. When possible we will try to tailor the course and some content to match your needs.
We can provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids and splash tops, but powerboating can be cold from the wind chill so you will also want a coat you can wear on the water, a hat and gloves. We ask that you bring some footwear that you don’t mind getting wet as well as some for wearing after you have changed. Also bring a towel, and some warm clothes for after we come off the water. Also an additional dry coat can be a good idea if it is cold and some suncream if the sun is out, as believe it or not it can get hot enough to burn here in Wales! We have excellent changing and shower facilities on site at Porth Eirias, there are also lockers that accept a £1 coin (and even give it back afterwards.)
A packed lunch is a good idea, although it is a short walk/drive into town so it is possible to go to the shops.
We will need a passport sized photo for your powerboat level 2 qualification, as you are issued with a photo card certificate in a pack with your handbook.
