The RYA Youth Windsurfing Scheme provides you with an easy and accessible way to progress in this exciting sport, with a certificated course for you to log your progression and recognise your achievements.
Stage 1 is the Ideal first introduction with no prior experience needed. Stage 1 Will teach you the basics of getting on the water and sailing the board across the wind and back.
Stage 2 course more practical skills are learned to get you sailing around more proficiently practicing the skills from Stage 1 and developing those skills. We have combined these two certificated courses into a two day course structure to enable windsurfers who have previously done a stage 1 course but are a bit rusty to pick up where they left off and hopefully pass their stage two course.
By the end of Stage 2 you should have had a basic introduction into the background knowledge about windsurfing, including practical skills which should enable you to sail around a triangular course.
We can provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids and splash tops, so you should be fully kitted out on the water. We ask that you bring some footwear that you don’t mind getting wet as well as some for wearing after you have changed. Also bring a towel, and some warm clothes for after we come off the water. Also a coat can be a good idea if it is cold and some suncream if the sun is out, as believe it or not it can get hot enough to burn here in Wales! We have excellent changing and shower facilities on site at Porth Eirias, there are also lockers that accept a £1 coin (and even give it back afterwards)
A packed lunch is a good idea, although it is a short walk/drive into town so it is possible to go to the shops.
